1.  Why should I import a vehicle from the US?

Most models of vehicles available in Canada cost considerably less in the US.  Savings vary between a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands, depending on the vehicle.  This is money that should be in your pocket, not given to the auto makers.
 

2.  Can any vehicle be imported from the US?

No.  Many models are inadmissible and others are admissible only if certain modifications are made.  We will let you know if your desired models is admissible or not.  Alternatively, you may check the list at www.riv.ca. 
 

3.  Do I have to use a broker to import a vehicle from the US?

Absolutely not!  Thousands of Canadians have done so on their own.  The entire procedure for importing a vehicle from the US is outlined at www.riv.ca.
 

4.  Why should I use Canautoquest to import a vehicle from the US?

We are familiar with the process and will ensure that your vehicle can be imported legally.  There have been several well-publicized cases of vehicles that were purchased in the US but then could not be brought into Canada legally.  Furthermore, many individuals do not have the time or inclination to follow this process to its successful conclusion.  We will provide you with a no-obligation quote and let you decide for yourself if you want to proceed with us.
 
5.  Are there any additional fees?
You will be responsible for provinvial registration fees and for the provincial sales tax as well as for major modifications (replacement of bumbers, replacement of back seats to install tethers, etc.), when necessary.  Our quote will indicate whether such modifications would be required.
 
6.  What about taxes?
As mentioned above, you will be responsible for the provincial sales tax but we will pay the GST at the point of entry to Canada.  These are the same taxes that you would pay on a vehicle that is purchased in Canada.  The good news is that you are paying taxes on a lower amount so you are saving there too.
 
7.  What about duty?
Vehicles made in North America are not subject to duty.  Those made elsewhere are subject to a charge of 6.1% but this amount would be included in our quote.
 
8.  Can I import a used vehicle?
Yes.  It does not matter whether the vehicle is new or used, as the procedure is the same.  There are great deals on used vehicles in the US.  Also, in the majority of cases, these vehicles have not had to endure harsh winters so that they are typically in better condition than Canadian vehicles fo the same year.  However, we prefer to deal with new vehicles because you are less likely to be disappointed with your purchase.  Nevertheless, if you have a specific model and year in mind, we search for qualifying vehicles and arrange for an inspection prior to purchase, as long as you are willing to pay for the inspection cost up front.
 
9.  Will the manufacturer's warranty be valid in Canada?
This varies by manufacturer.  Some manufacturers will honour the warranty, others will impose certain conditions on the warranty, and other will void the warranty as soon as the vehicle is registered in Canada.  We will provide you with the warranty information for your chosen vehicle.  Please note, however, that the warranty situation may change after you purchase the vehicle.
 
10. Can I lease or finance a vehicle purchaed in the US?
Not at this time.  You cannot get the financing through the dealership or the manufacturer.  If you are unable to pay for the vehicle outright or obtain a bank loan for the cost of the vehicle, then you need to restrict your search to Canadian dealers.
 
11. When do I have to pay for the vehicle?
A deposit of 25% is required at the time of ordering.  The remainder is due once the vehicle arrives in Canada.  We will not deliver the vehicle until the account has been paid in full.

12. How do I pay for my vehicle?

Payment may be made by wire transfer or certified cheque.
 
13. How long will it take before I receive my vehicle?
In the majority of cases, we can deliver the vehicle within 3 weeks from the time that the order is made.
